A favorite author of mine, Pearl S. Buck, draws pictures with her words. This description of a man from her historical fiction, PEARL: “He wan an ample man, black-bearded and olive-skinned, and he filled the wide Chinese chair. ……. With his size he moved in a slumberous fashion, yet he was not languid so much as indomitable.”
Her description is fluid and carried the reader through the rooms, through the story with the man. Ah, to be able to write so well!
