I like to enter marathons. Knowing that I’ve paid somewhere between $45 and $125 to participate keeps me on track getting prepared, physically. Generally I’m a fast-walk, slow-jog kind of ‘runner.’ The last one I did was a 10K (6.2 miles.) My next one is 10 miles. Eeek.
But my point is, I need goals. Contests, pitch contests, even a deadline to send work to my critique partner helps me stay on task. Otherwise, I’m a floater. I’ll spend an hour on a long story, 20 minutes on a short story, check Pinterest, post something on Facebook, go back and read an article in Writers Digest – you know the grueling routine.
So now that Pitch Wars has ended, I must search for a new challenge. Sigh!
